Clyde Hopkins

Of Counsel

Clyde Hopkins did not start his career in public relations, but always took an interest in writing. As an undergraduate student, Clyde co-authored a published research paper and worked as a research microbiologist at Baylor Medical School in Houston. After beginning his career in research, Clyde realized that writing was still his passion and returned to school to study journalism at The University of Texas in Austin, where he earned his second bachelor’s degree.

Clyde then embarked on a career in journalism as editor for three oil industry trade magazines in Dallas, before being transferred to New York City.

In New York Clyde created a nationwide public relations program for a petroleum industry association, and was quickly recruited by Burson-Marsteller, which introduced him to Madison Avenue public relations. His experience at Burson included working with clients throughout the U. S. and Europe. While there, Clyde won the GWTW (Gone With the Wind) Award for helping a client place the longest published story of the year -- 48 pages in a leading business journal.

After the birth of his two sons, Clyde moved to Dallas, where he was vice president and general manager of, at the time, the largest public relations agency in Texas.

In 1976 Clyde founded Hopkins & Associates, and after 45 years in the world of communications, he has become Of Counsel to the world in general, but to our clients in particular.

Clyde's clients have included some of the world’s most successful companies and brands -- American Express, Anheuser-Busch and its Budweiser brand, Hostess Twinkies, Citicorp, Wonder Bread, Frito-Lay, McDonald's, Toyota USA, PepsiCo, Lexus, the Personal Communications Industry Association in Washington, D.C. – and smaller emerging companies.

When he is not thinking about clients, Clyde delights in reading voraciously, including some of the most obtuse literature imaginable. He also concocts a stellar coq au vin.
