Barbara Hyman, APR, CC
Chief Operating Officer
Principal
Barbara Hyman intended to become a marine biologist, known far and wide for her groundbreaking work in getting food from the sea.
That was until she took physical chemistry, the combination of her two most hated college courses, physics and chemistry. After the straight-A student pulled her mid-term D up to a final C, she changed majors to journalism -- and hasn’t looked back.
At Hopkins & Associates since 1980, Barbara has been responsible for major communications programs for clients including American Express, McDonald's, Gillette, PepsiCo, Anheuser-Busch and Frito-Lay. She has also spearheaded programs for such groups as the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the American Institute of Wine and Food, among others.
Before joining Hopkins & Associates, Barbara was associated with Peachtree Center in Atlanta for five years, ultimately as director of communications for that multi-use complex. She played a major role in creating and carrying out the highly successful marketing communications and public relations plans for the Center.
Barbara graduated from of The University of Texas in Austin, where she (finally, according to her parents) earned a bachelor of journalism degree. Active in professional, civic and cultural affairs, she is a graduate of the Leadership Dallas program of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. A past president of the Dallas Chapter of Women in Communications and the Dallas Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, Barbara is an accredited member of PRSA. She has judged its prestigious Silver Anvil awards and is also a member of the PRSA Counselors Academy.
While marine biology may be part of her past, Barbara’s intense interest in food remains. She recently completed an associate degree in culinary arts and can now add CC (Certified Culinarian) after her name. Barbara has won ribbons for her jams and jellies at the State Fair of Texas.
